What is Anchor Tab?

We provide an email marketing opt-in bar as a service, abstracting away all the nastiness of integrating with an email marketing and keeping that integration current. We provide integrations to Atlanta natives MailChimp and Pardot, as well as integrations for Constant Contact and Campaign Monitor, for the less hometown-favorite inclined.

What’s your traction been like thus far?

Decent. Our product currently loads on a customer’s website around 400,000 time in a month.

What do you know now that you wish you would have known when you started Anchor Tab?

I wish we knew the volumes we didn’t know about marketing a product. Getting your product to the right people is as in depth as building a good product, and much of our prior experience is in the latter topic.

What’s a hypothesis that you’ve had that has failed? And how did you respond?

That customers would be already looking for a full fledge analytics platform for their email marketing views and conversions. When we launched we gave some people a taste, and we were met with a collective “meh.” Users who care about metrics will typically invest the time to build out a real analytics pipeline, or use a product that manages that pipeline for them. In response, we decided to not continue building that code and instead focus on what we could do well: building a pleasant opting-in experience for readers.

What’s your favorite startup in Atlanta? (Besides your own!)

Scoutmob or MailChimp, easily. They both have a lot of personality, from Scoutmob’s reply-to addresses to MailChimp’s quotes that used to appear in the last version of their control panel. We took a lot of queues from them in deciding what kind of personality we wanted our brand to have.

What’s your favorite thing about being an entrepreneur?

Getting to curate what I’m working on from start-to-finish and having the freedom to experiment, which implicitly means the freedom to fail. I learn so much more by doing than being told.

What’s your favorite local sports team?
As a Georgia grad, I have to say the UGA Bulldawgs.

If your company were an animal, what would it be and why?

Probably a border collie. We’re intelligent, helpful, and loyal. But our forgot password screen lives at /amnesia and we have at least one reference to The Mask in our code. So we’re also a bit mischievous where we can be.
