What is Kanga?

Kanga is a crowd-sourced delivery platform that provides individuals, retailers, and organizations with the ability to create affordable same-day and scheduled local deliveries. Whether you’re a city dweller with a small car who needs to move a couch to your new pad, or a retailer that wants to blow the competition out of the water by offer same day delivery, Kanga has the crowd to get things moving.

What’s your traction been like thus far?

Our initial sales efforts to local retailers has gone very, very well. Retailers are very excited about the ability to offer same-day and scheduled delivery without the expense and liability of maintaining their own fleet. By integrating Kanga into their point of sale and ecommerce systems, local businesses are able to offer a more convenient, and less expensive offering than the big box giants. That’s an easy sell, and a clear win for their businesses.

What do you know now that you wish you would have known when you started Kanga?

When we first started building out platform, I wish we had been able to foresee how much need there is for local delivery in the medical field. Targeting some of our efforts towards embracing the unique needs of Atlanta’s awesome hospital complexes would have been some very smart positioning.

What’s a hypothesis that you’ve had that has failed? And how did you respond?

For a time, we believed strongly that integrating a marketplace into the app would be critical to our overall success. After much debate, analysis, and talking with smart folks in the retail space, we learned that the marketplace was not a strong option for our model. We pivoted away from that concept, and focused solely on our core offering.

What’s your favorite startup in Atlanta? (Besides your own!)

Not sure if they’re still in startup-land, but Scoutmob is an amazing organization staffed with the absolute coolest, nicest folks in Atlanta.

If their too big for the startup britches, I’d have to thrown in Paul Judge and the team at Monsieur. These guys are developing a very, very cool product, and it’s refreshing (pun intended) to see an Atlanta startup deviating from the typical SaaS platform that we seem to do so often here.

What’s your favorite thing about being an entrepreneur?

I love the ability to watch a concept go from scribbles on a napkin to a living, breathing entity with form, function and personality. It’s almost like being a parent; very rewarding for sure.

What’s your favorite local sports team?
The Atlanta Braves!

If your company were an animal, what would it be and why?

A kangaroo, of course. ‘Roos have the speed and power to carry all sorts of things around. Plus, look cool doing it, much like the handsome devils and she-devils on the Kanga team!
